Thailand

From Bangkok temples to Phuket beaches, ancient kingdoms meet tropical paradise.

About Thailand

Thailand is the kingdom of smiles — a land where golden temples pierce tropical skies, limestone islands rise from turquoise seas, and the cuisine is so addictive it has spawned restaurants on every continent. Bangkok is a sensory overload in the best way: tuk-tuks buzz past the Grand Palace's golden spires, floating markets sell mangoes and coconut pancakes from wooden boats, and street vendors serve pad thai from woks that have been seasoned for decades. North, the ancient city of Chiang Mai wraps itself around 300 Buddhist temples and a moat that once defended the Lanna Kingdom. Here, elephants roam ethical sanctuaries, hill tribe markets burst with hand-woven textiles, and monks chant at dawn in mountaintop pagodas. South, the Andaman Sea delivers paradise on repeat: Phuket's limestone karsts, Koh Phi Phi's Maya Bay, Koh Lanta's empty beaches, and the Similan Islands' technicolor coral reefs. Thailand offers luxury resorts where butlers arrange private yacht charters, and backpacker hostels where strangers become family over buckets of Chang beer. It is simultaneously ancient and modern, spiritual and hedonistic, familiar and exotic. Whatever you seek — enlightenment, adventure, relaxation, or the best meal of your life — Thailand says "sawadee" and delivers.

Best Time to Visit

November to February is the cool, dry season — ideal for beaches, temples, and outdoor activities. November-December offers the best weather nationwide. March-May is hot but celebrates Songkran (Thai New Year) in April with epic water fights. June-October is monsoon season with afternoon showers and lower prices.

Travel Tips

  • Dress modestly for temples: no shorts, no sleeveless tops, and remove shoes before entering
  • Learn to haggle politely at markets — start at 50% of the asking price and smile throughout
  • Use Grab for taxis in Bangkok to avoid meter scams; negotiate tuk-tuk fares in advance
  • Try pad thai from a street cart — the best versions are cooked to order over high flame
  • Respect the monarchy; defamation laws are strictly enforced even by tourists
  • Carry toilet paper and hand sanitizer — many public restrooms do not provide them
